咖啡農向來偏好風味溫和、價格相對昂貴的阿拉比卡咖啡豆（arabica），至於多用來製造即溶咖啡或混和咖啡的羅布斯塔咖啡豆（robusta），則較不受關愛。</div>

在精品咖啡業擔任顧問的赫佐（Andrew Hetzel）表示，羅布斯塔的味道濃烈，有人甚至形容它嚐起來就像“橡膠輪胎”、“石油桶”，或是“孩童的淚水”。</div>

這也使得阿拉比卡豆目前高佔全球咖啡產量的65％。然而此一趨勢如今正在轉變！全球對羅布斯塔豆需求正在攀升，尤其亞洲，這也激勵拉美國家開始大量生產價格相對便宜的該咖啡豆。</div>

目前瓜地拉馬與尼加拉瓜都在擴展羅布斯塔豆的生產區。哥斯達黎加在2月也解除了禁種羅布斯塔豆的命令。連過去一向瞧不起該種咖啡豆的哥倫比亞，也開始有人突破傳統，開始進行實驗性的栽種。</div>

哥倫比亞過去不願生產羅布斯塔豆，主要是擔心會壞了該國向來只追求高品質咖啡豆的名聲。</div>

但如今已有一些咖啡老饕出面爲羅布斯塔美言。他們強調，如果生產在對的區域，羅布斯塔豆的味道一點都不差。</div>

大型烘焙業者 需求增溫</div>

在雀巢哥倫比亞公司擔任永續發展經理的佩羅塔（Ricardo Piedrahita）指出，“大型咖啡烘焙業者對羅布斯塔豆的需求正與日俱增”。該國的咖啡豆年產量，約有5％是被雀巢買走的。</div>

哥國農業部在Monteria鎮附近有一座專屬苗圃，農業學家正投標購買來自法國與墨西哥的3千株羅布斯塔豆的幼苗。</div>

爲檢視這些飄洋渡海的幼苗，來訪者必須先穿上藍色的消毒工作服與防護帽、並且還要洗淨雙腳、以及經過三道防止昆蟲與微生物進入的特製門，才能入內一探究竟。</div>

隸屬該國政府的農業學家裴瑞茲（Juan Carlos Perez）對待這些羅布斯塔豆的幼苗，就如同他自己的小孩。他輕輕的撫摸這些枝椏，上面標示著橘色記號與數字。</div>

來自咖啡種植家庭的他表示，阿拉比卡豆雖然品質優良，不過放手對羅布斯塔豆進行實驗性栽種，也不會有太大的損失。</div>

今年來羅布斯塔豆的批發價格每磅約爲87美分，至於哥倫比亞阿拉比卡豆則爲1.39美元。然而主要被羅布斯塔豆主導的亞洲，是現今全球咖啡銷售成長最快地區，今年消費量預估將增長3.1％，相形之下歐洲僅增長0.5％、北美2.6％。</div>

Rabobank軟性飲料分析師魏森（James Watson）認爲，對咖啡農而言，羅布斯塔有阿拉比卡無法匹敵優點，像是抵抗病蟲害的能力強、栽種容易與收成率高。</div>
