場景是2017年六月的布達佩斯，號稱「世界咖啡奧林匹克」四大賽事之一的世界盃衝煮大賽（WBrC）會場上，來自臺灣、二十九歲的王策，打敗四十一國咖啡好手，高舉冠軍獎盃。他是臺灣第一人，也是華人圈首位奪下這項比賽冠軍的人。
王策被認爲是黑馬，因爲他的咖啡學齡僅三年，卻在第二次比賽就奪冠；而他的希臘師傅Stefanos Domatiotis，整整參賽十年纔拿下冠軍。
他們，曾十二年只見面三次
成爲冠軍前，「我只是某某人的兒子」
在成爲世界冠軍之前，「我在咖啡圈只是個nobody（無名小卒），我只是某某人的兒子。」王策說。
王策口中的「某某人」，就是被中國咖啡圈稱作「咖啡大王」的上海王力咖啡總裁王朱岑。他在中國咖啡設備系統服務產業中，有着龍頭地位，中國星巴克、肯德基、CoCo都可等大型連鎖業者，共兩萬多家門市的咖啡機設備與維修服務，都由他一手包辦。

2017年十二月六日，星巴克全球第二家「臻選烘焙工坊」在上海開幕，這是星巴克全球最大門市，面積八百多坪，包括一座咖啡豆烘焙廠，顧客可參觀並品嚐現場手衝咖啡。該店內的相關機器設備，同樣來自王力咖啡。
這對父子檔用咖啡闖天下，一個在中國稱霸，一個在世界留名，但兩人的關係卻若即若離，甚至，有點陌生。
兒時，當父母談起「王策」，講的是在臺灣開的「王策咖啡公司」，而不是他。王策十二歲就被送往英國唸書，直到他大學畢業，父子倆只見過三次面，每次見面四十八小時。沒有共同話題，短暫相處時，爸爸談工作，兒子默默的聽。

從一門小生意，做到星巴克少不了他
這個咖啡與親情交揉糾葛的故事，要從二十年前談起。
王朱岑1990年代就進入中國市場，當時在商用廚房設備領導品牌美得彼（Middleby）擔任亞洲區副總裁兼中國區負責人。其後他跨進咖啡設備，全因星巴克。
星巴克1999年進軍中國。對中國消費者而言，茶文化有幾千年歷史，咖啡卻是陌生的飲品，更別談星巴克能在當地找到咖啡機設備代理商與維修服務商，於是找上在美得彼任職的王朱岑幫忙。
「我當時寫了封信給公司，但公司覺得星巴克只開三家店，規模太小，若要特別爲它開一條服務鏈，不合成本，所以就讓我私下幫忙……。」他說。
當年美得彼年營業額近新臺幣百億元（去年已達近七百億元），看不上星巴克這門小生意；但這筆小生意，卻意外成了他在中國創業的契機。當星巴克展店速度加快，他無法只是「幫忙」，於是2005年辭掉副總裁，在四十六歲創業。
他從代理咖啡機開始，跨足物流、服務，並做起咖啡原料生意。先在上海設立面積兩千多坪的物流中心與客戶服務中心，加強機器配送與維修服務，然後成立貿易公司，進口咖啡與茶的原料。
星巴克從三家店，到如今全中國一百三十九個城市、三千家店，王力咖啡之所以壯大，與星巴克的擴張緊緊相連。
拼服務，養設備維修部隊
客戶拓點馬上跟去，承諾四小時到店
爲什麼星巴克要跟一個臺商合作，而不是找中國大陸本地商人？因爲他打造了一道讓對手無法進攻的護城河：爲了星巴克布點一百三十九個城市的維修服務網絡，砸重金培訓一百八十位維修工程師，承諾「四小時內到店維修」。
隨着星巴克宣佈在2021年要在中國展店至五千家，他2017年下重本，將維修大軍擴充到三百人，擴增客服中心達百人。
難道，競爭對手不能養兵對抗？
「要來搶這個位子，你就要架構出這樣的團隊，很多人想到就頭大……，因爲這不只是人力成本，還有零件管理、調派等問題。」王力咖啡公司財務長廉裕昌說。
兩岸知名手搖茶產品原料、設備和維修服務商的金樂客國際集團總經理林東信說，王力咖啡的龍頭地位，就是這片服務網絡，「中國不是沒人競爭，但都是跟當地第三方維修業者簽約，品質無法控管，說了三小時到店，結果三天後纔到店。」自家服務跟王力咖啡都「是出名的貴」，但大連鎖業者看的不是錢，是品質。
王朱岑在咖啡設備、維修服務站穩腳步，其他大型連鎖業者如肯德基、CoCo也成爲其客戶。目前這片服務網絡業務佔公司總營收六成，另四成來自咖啡豆、茶葉銷售。王力咖啡2016年營收達人民幣三億五千萬元（約合新臺幣十六億元），近三年營收成長率維持15%以上。
怕穩定，「物極必反我怎麼辦」
一趟美國行，決定投入精品咖啡
照理說，他只要持續抓緊大客戶的發展腳步，公司成長不是問題。但，他卻最怕「穩定」這件事。
「沒有對手，很多人會relax（安於）現狀，獲利越高，競爭力卻越低，如果沒有其他更大的客戶，有一天物極必反，我怎麼辦？」他擔心。
登頂的他，反而對現狀充滿危機感，積極嘗試業務多元發展的可能性。他擔憂有天客戶有冷凍食品需求，爲了理解冷鏈物流，他花人民幣數百萬元買了一貨櫃的冷凍貝果，嘗試販售；他怕未來所有人都在網上購物，於是砸了人民幣百萬元開闢電商小組，成立電商平臺，以理解網絡銷售咖啡的可能性。
雖然，兩項實驗最後都不可行，但花錢買經驗，他認爲值得，「就好像付了幾百萬美元給律師做評估，最後他說這官司不能打，因爲打輸可能讓你賠了幾千萬！」
終於，在2012年春天，一次飛往星巴克西雅圖總部開會的過程中，他找出公司下一條成長曲線的答案：精品咖啡。
在開會空檔，他走進時任星巴克執行長霍華．舒茲（Howard Schultz）在2009年成立的「洛伊街咖啡和茶」（Roy street Coffee and Tea），讓他大爲震驚。
「裏面店員全都穿着牛仔褲、手臂上刺青，產品來自街坊鄰居（如周邊麪包店產品），茶是特殊的、咖啡豆是現烘且手衝的！」他回憶現場，說得略微激動，因爲，這跟他熟悉的星巴克完全不同。
當時店長邀他一起做杯評（Cupping），發現對手咖啡豆風味更好，店長毫不驚慌的說：「所以，星巴克還有很大的調整空間！」
當下他明白，原來，引爆第三波咖啡革命的星巴克，開始爲第四波革命做準備，「星巴克是要做個假想敵來打擊自己、瞭解市場需求與最新動向。」
他思索事業下一步，應往精品咖啡發展。但，精品咖啡所需的生豆、烘焙與研磨技巧乃至展演咖啡的方式，他一個都沒有。
當返回上海的飛機一落地，他立刻召集業務部門開會宣佈：王力要做精品咖啡、成立咖啡研究室，還要砸下人民幣一千萬元（約合新臺幣四千六百萬元）買莊園生豆，等同當年公司營業額的十分之一。
員工一面倒反對，因爲精品豆昂貴，中國市場接受度混沌未明。
商業咖啡豆一公斤價格約新臺幣一百多元，來自莊園的精品豆，一公斤可高達二萬五千元。而一杯手衝咖啡，價格至少是連鎖咖啡店販售價格的1.5倍甚至十二倍以上。中國咖啡消費市場目前仍有七成只喝即溶咖啡，員工擔憂不是沒有原因。
員工反彈沒打消他的念頭。他另闢小組，找食品相關碩士在上海總部三樓倉庫「祕密研究」，鑽研從烘焙、研磨到沖泡的各種數據，還找國外咖啡專家開班授課。他嚴禁一、二樓員工踏上三樓，三樓研究員也不能下樓。久之，員工好奇，頻頻問：可否上樓嚐嚐？
「可以，但上樓就得上課，學咖啡！」計劃奏效，他把員工的好奇心轉爲學習動力，也讓王力精品咖啡學院順利步上軌道。
「王力咖啡做維修服務做得好，但再怎麼做，說穿了，就是一家維修公司，」廉裕昌分析，「但是當公司有來自世界的國外咖啡冠軍來授課、衝煮咖啡給你喝、漂亮的手衝技術……這個公司的形象就是upgrade（提升）的！」
兩年前，星巴克開始在包括中國的全球部分門市賣起手衝咖啡，價格是意式咖啡的1.5倍以上；雀巢今年買下美國知名精品咖啡品牌「藍瓶咖啡」（Blue Bottle Coffee），兩大咖啡龍頭，都看到未來精品咖啡的發展潛力。
軍人性格，隨時想戰場在哪
卻犧牲家庭生活，離婚、父子陌生
爲何王朱岑能領先中國業者看到這市場？這與他的背景有關：他是有着軍人性格的商人。
早年他念海軍官校，軍校教他一件事：「找適當的時間、在適當的地點，用適當的方法，戰死！」他說，如果要選擇死的時間，就得有一身本領、隨時想像敵人在哪裏，「否則你一開始就會戰死沙場」。
放在商場上則是，要敗，也要選擇關鍵戰場，光榮戰敗，而不是在無謂的戰場中，不戰而敗。
他隨時思考戰場在哪裏、敵人在哪裏。經商這幾十年來，想的都是：人的生活會變成什麼樣？我未來的敵人會在哪裏？
他保持警覺，建起自己的咖啡王國，但也犧牲了家庭生活。
他與妻子在王策五歲時就離異，其後父子聚少離多，王策十二歲赴英國唸書，成長過程，關鍵字是「孤獨」。他談起拼事業的過程，口沫橫飛，但講起這一塊，表情落寞，「我對家庭付出太少……，都在拼事業。」

兒子因苦肉計跨入咖啡圈
直到參賽發現「我可能很好強」
直到王策大學畢業那年，王朱岑飛往英國參加畢業典禮，力勸他從原本的志願海洋生物學轉攻食品管理碩士，之後又拉着王策搬到上海，在公司擔任研究員，咖啡，才慢慢成了聯繫父子倆情感的繩鏈。
「那時他有用苦肉計啊，說他身體不好，希望我去幫忙……。」王策說，2014年他搬到上海，整整兩年都蹲在前述三樓研究室做數據，「是到日本跟巖瀨由和（2014、2015年世界盃咖啡大師冠軍）學義式咖啡後，我看到客人喝着咖啡說好喝，那一剎那，我才知道這是有意義的。」
儘管咖啡將兩人拉近，但不熟悉的父子，已經習慣各自生活，王策在上海兩年間，也沒跟爸爸住在一起。
爸爸霸氣，隨時處於備戰狀態，兒子細膩，只想把自己的事做好。「我是不好鬥的人，英國教育更不鼓勵排名、名次，只要把自己的事情做到好就好了。」王策說。
直到他參加WBrC大賽，第一次想要贏，也第一次發現自己，「若放在一個環境跟別人競爭，我可能是很好強的。」
「我不能丟臉，我在咖啡圈雖然是個nobody，但我父親是有名的人，人家知道我爸是誰，我用了最好的豆子，有世界冠軍級的教練……我不能輸！」他說。
原來，父子倆身上都流着好勝的血液。
如今，父子倆都成爲咖啡產業某個領域的冠軍，很難不讓人聯想接班問題。但其實，除了王策會以世界冠軍身分，偶爾赴公司擔任講師，其他時間父子交集不多，他們在兩岸，走不同的路。
奪獎後，在兩岸竄紅
父親同臺，被介紹是「王策的爸爸」
爸爸打算在未來一年內，斥資至少人民幣四千萬元（約合新臺幣一億八千萬元），在大陸建造包括實驗室、咖啡豆烘焙廠、咖啡學院的「夢工廠」，打造華人的咖啡「藍帶學院」。兒子則想在臺灣做如日本人氣咖啡店% Arabica Coffee、美國藍瓶的精品咖啡品牌，再走到全世界。
今年十一月，在臺灣一場咖啡展覽會上，王策與來自希臘、日本的咖啡冠軍得主一字排開，以熟練優雅的動作衝煮咖啡時，臺下咖啡迷們紛紛舉起手機狂拍，仿如偶像簽唱會現場。
這天，老爸特別從上海飛過來，留下難得的父子合影。「（在布達佩斯）他得冠軍的那天，終於有人過來介紹，我是王策的爸爸……。」他說，眼神是得意的。
許多企業都面臨接班問題，他們也在理解彼此中摸索未來。這不是一個二代傳承的典型故事，這對父子檔選擇各自精進，反而讓他們的咖啡王國，有了更多可能。
